National Lung Cancer Work Programme

The Ministry of Health has contracted the Midland Cancer Network to provide secretariat and project management support for the National Lung Cancer Working Group.  The purpose of the Working Group is to:

  1. promote a nationally co-ordinated and consistent approach to the prevention, early detection and delivery of care for primary thoracic malignancy patients, promoting equitable, timely and quality care for all patients and whanau/family.
  2. actively support Smokefree 2025 vision recognising smoking is the greatest risk factor for lung cancer.

The National Lung Cancer Work Programme is to:

  • develop a national guidance for follow-up and supportive care of lung cancer patients after curative-intent therapy
  • develop a national guidance and an implementation plan for early detection of lung cancer
